Event The Future of Cruising

Details A conference organised by RYANI and supported by N. Ireland Volvo Car Dealers, Greers of Antrim and SMW Belfast to be held at the Royal Ulster Yacht Club, Bangor On Saturday 24 January 2009

Stuart Carruthers, RYA’s Cruising Manager, will start the day with an overview of the crunch issues for cruising sailors. Top yacht designer, Nigel Irens, who among other things is famous for designing record breaking racing catamarans for both Ellen McArthur and Francis Joyon and the Westernman cruising yachts as currently sailed by Tom Cunliffe, will discuss boat design and development. Professor David Last of the Royal Institute of Navigation will speak about electronic navigation while Capt Robert McCabe of Irish Lights will talk about more traditional aids to navigation. Further sessions will cover safety, and ‘Smelling the Roses’ - about voyaging further and/or keeping one’s boat abroad.

Event Tall Ships Belfast

Details Belfast has been selected as the finishing port of the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge in 2009. The event, which will be one of the most memorable and exciting in 2009, will take place over four days in August.

During this time, it is hoped that over 20 Tall Ships will visit Belfast, having travelled across the Atlantic from Halifax in Canada.

The Tall Ships event will be one of the most important events in Belfast during 2009. Those attending will have the opportunity to not only see the Tall Ships but have a highly enjoyable and memorable visit.

There will be plenty of activities for visitors along the quayside, with fun, food and frolics! Activities will include music, street theatre and a variety of magical performances for the whole family to enjoy.
