Ron Hutchieson who has been involved with Lasers longer than many of us have ever been sailing them. He's fondly known to some of us as “Uncle Ron” who never misses an Icebreaker Dinner. Well, he’s certainly done it in style this time – no he didn’t run into a bunch of cattle with his Volvo. Ron Hutchieson was nominated by the Irish Laser Class Association and was announced as the ISA Volunteer of the Year at the Awards Dinner on Saturday 6th March.
ISA Chief Executive Harry Hermon said: "Ron's commitment over the
last 30 years is extraordinary and has been of huge benefit to the
development of the sport. His is a worthy recipient of the ISA
Volunteer of the Year Award."
Since the 1960's Ron Hutchieson has been a tireless volunteer for
the sport at all levels both nationally and internationally. In 1973 he
joined the committee of the Irish Laser Association and since than has
been involved in the development and growth of the Laser dinghy class
to be one of the strongest sailing classes not just in Ireland but in
the world. An International Judge since 1983, he has volunteered at
countless World and European sailing regattas. In 1983 he joined the
ISA Racing Rules and Appeals Board and is Chairman since 1997
