We received this news from the Portpatrick RNLI – looks like an excuse to have a party in Portpatrick on the Ailsa Craig race weekend (as if we need a reason to party!) Willie Ramsay who has looked after many boats from Northern Ireland has retired and the village is lighting a bonfire on Saturday 27th June to give him a send off. Willie will be present and the lifeboat crew will be doing a BBQ on the harbour.
Optimist Fleet at Ballyholme - Photo by Doug Rennie
The Irish Optimist fleet arrived en masse at Ballyholme last weekend –
they travelled far and wide – from Cork and Kinsale, Galway and
Dromineer, Dublin and Skerries. They arrived with tents, campervans
although the majority stayed in local hotels and B&Bs. It was the perfect weekend – plenty of sunshine, Sea Bangor fun and just about enough wind.
The Laser Master event was held at Ballyholme on 30/31st of May. The weather was absolutely beautiful. Sun and no clouds with great winds helped the sailors plus the rescue personnel survive and it also raised the spirits of all on the water.
Don't forget this weekend (6th & 7th June) sees the Clasic Sail event arrive at Carrickfergus.
Visit the fleet of classic sailing boats moored in Carrickfergus Harbour, many of which have been saved from extinction and lovingly restored by their proud owners who just love to talk about their project and the history of their vessels.
